Dear everybody,
Thank you for becoming a member of the blog .
Let us this time focus on holidays. There are an enormous amount of
holidays in November in the English speaking world. A holiday is an
occasion recognized by the state or government and marked on
calendars, like Thanksgiving in the United States or Guy Fawkes Day
in Britain. Some holidays are even celebrated in Estonia like
Halloween. First, I wish you to make a discovery in this field. I
have added the links and I expect you to gain information fom
studying the web pages below. You may google your favourite holiday
to find out what the Internet reveals. Everything is up to you.
Secondly, I suggest that you should comment
on the idea that some people say that each
country should only celebrate their own holidays.
Do you agree or disagree?
Thirdly, I wish you to find the holiday that most applies to you and
prepare one-minute monologue about it. Guide the rest of you
classmates into details on this topic. Deadline is November 9.
Wishing
you all the very best.
Faithfully,
Ülle

ReplyDeleteHello to dear readers!
ReplyDeleteI am going to write about holidays. Some people say that each country should only celebrate their own holidays. I agree with the statement because one thing that makes a country special and unique is their holidays. When we start to celebrate some other countrys holidays then we become to be not that special any more. Every country has their own holidays and should be happy with them. Estonians have many old traditions and holidays and I think that it is very nice to still keep celebrating them because then we remember the old traditions and honor the people that lived in Estonia before we were born. This is my opinion about celebrating holidays.
Wish you all the best and have a nice day!

DeleteGood evening Krislin,
DeleteThank you for sharing your ideas. That is coming along nicely.
I would be delighted to hear from you soon.
All the very best,

Dear Ülle
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion Estonia should celebrate international holidays in addition to our own. The reason for this is that the world is becoming more and more connected and it would help to undrestand different cultures.
Furthermore celebrating holidays from different nationalities would show respect to each other and would also serve to lessen hatred between people from different cultures.
Yours sincerely

Dear Markus,

ReplyDeleteDear Ülle and other Co-authors,
ReplyDeleteI have chosen to find out more about the Guy Fawkes Night, since as I do know some facts about it, I am yet not quite sure how it is celeberated and simply for the fact that the Guy Fawkes Night is celeberated on november 5th, which is tomorrow.
As I mentioned earlier, the Guy Fawkes Night is celeberated on november 5th and it originates from year 1605, making it 410th time this given holiday is being held. What I did not know was that people of Great Britain light bonfires so long as they are ''without any danger or disorder''.
As for the second question, I do not believe that each country should only celeberate their own holidays, since over the course of time, people have travelled a lot and with that, plenty of traditions have followed. As the new traditions spread across the globe, I find that they should be celeberated if the citizens and other residents find them appealing, even if it does not relate to the history of the nation.
Wish you all a great week.
Yours sincerely,
Marius Paat
Thank you Marius. It was a nice read.

Dear classmates!
ReplyDeleteIt is said that each country should only celebrate their own holidays. I do not agree. People should celebrate these holidays they like the most or these which are most important to them. The nationality or country is not determinative. We should continue to celebrate our national holidays, but there is nothing wrong when we celebrate holidays like Halloween and Thanksgivings aswell. Especially this year Halloween was a very popular holiday in Estonia. I have not seen so many people celebrating this holiday in my fellowship.
Wishing all the best

Dear Mariann,

Dear classmates and teacher!
ReplyDeleteI agree with teacher's statement. I also find that we should stick to our roots, specially when it comes to holidays. We have our own unique holidays and ways to celebrate them. Celebrating holidays from another countries would make us forget the importance of our culture and traditions.
I also think borrowing holidays form another cultures would be a poor idea. For example, some people are trying to celebrate Halloween in Estonia. They are usually people who are fond of American culture. However their community is too average to success in this. That is why we should stick to our own holidays, for All Soul's Day instead of Halloween.

Johann

Dear Ülle,
ReplyDeleteThank you for adding a new post. The topic to write about is a good choice because I think that this is the topic we should focus on our socciety more offten.
As I said before this is really important topic so I mean that we should not take a lead on the other country holidays because we have many days on our calender that we are not cellebrate. As example 14 October we have a Kaduneljapäev what we are not cellebrate usually we are not even notice this. Which is very sad. But the saddest part of that is some of us even do not know what Kaduneljapäev is meaning.
But in our calender is also came and will come many different deadlines as Valentine`s day and more offtend Hallowen which took place on Sunday.
As we can see there are so many new things to cellebrate but in the same time we forget the things we should cellebrate. So I think that each country should first remember their own deadlines and after that look around what is going on in the other countries.
Faintfully,
Kelli
Dear Kelli,

Dear readers,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, holidays are a huge part of our lives. They give us some time to rest from our everyday routine. After the celebrations we feel ready to work on full time again.
Some people say that each country should only celebrate their own holidays. In my opinion it is highly recommended to be acquainted with the holidays all over the world and maybe even celebrate some in our country. For an example, it would be a good idea to celebrate the Great American Smokeout in Estonia. As the idea of this holiday is to encourage smokers to make a plan to quit smoking, even if for one day. As we all know estonians are in high places for smoking in several top 100s. So maybe it would help people to really quit smoking.
Then again it is important to now forget our own traditions and holidays that are worth keeping and clearly we should never forget our routes.
So my idea is that it is important to keep our own holidays, but also celebrate other countries holidays, when it makes our lives (hopefully) better.
I wish you all the best in this dark November day.
Kaidi
Hello everyone,
ReplyDeleteIf some people say that each country should celebrate their own holidays then I agree with that. For example why should we celebrate Halloween if we have Mardi- and Kadripäev. We are so small nation that we should keep our holidays and we should not decorate us with strange feathers. And some holidays are not acceptable for us. For example Victory in Europe Day, for most of the world it meant end of the WW2 and victory over Third Reich but for Eastern-Europe it meant start of long Soviet occupation and red terror.

ReplyDeleteDear teacher Ülle and classmates,
DeleteFirst of all, I would like to say It is nice to see the new posts. Post theme is absolutely relevant, because Christmas is coming which is well known holiday around the world.
Next, I want to share with you intriguing holiday. I found the holiday, which rings me bell one film what I recently watched. This holy is Running of the Bulls and it is one of the festivals in Spain. It begins on 7th July. Bullruns are at 8am each morning. I hope this is not bite off more than one can chew for me. In short, it means, I am going to look more information about this festival.
In addition, I am glad your interested in our view. I agree your question whether each country should only celebrate their own holidays. After all, the country´s culture is based their own holidays. Everybody knows that the world of globalization. Why we want to be similar in all things? Therefore, I agree with Martin.
Your faithfully,
Liisi

DeleteGood evening,
DeleteWhat a surprise! Nice and long statement. You did a lot of work this time. What is more, you made a comment on Martin's posting. Actually, the aim of this blog is first, to make you write and think on the matter. Next to read other postings and comment them.
Well done, keep going.

Dear bloggers,
ReplyDeleteEvery country has own holidays and traditions. In my opinion every country should celebrate their own holidays. Inasmuch as, we begin to celebrate Halloween, then presumably our own indigenous holidays gonna fade away. Mardipäev and Kadripäev are more important than some wordly wellknown Halloween. Nowadays we catch sight of celebrations and posted photographs on the internet, which are organized for Halloween. Mardipäeva songs and dances are fall down to Halloween trick-our-treat. In Mardipäev people presume, that youngsters are thiefs.
Furthermore, Mardipäev and Kadripäev are old customs and analogous to Halloween. At that it`s making me doleful to see, that we gonna overtake some other peoples traditions. We have to bear in mind and stuck to Estonian holidays and roots.

Nadežda
Thank you Nadja,

Hello to dear readers
ReplyDeleteI agree that each country should celebrate their own holidays. In my opinion holidays makes our country special. When all countries celebrate the same holidays then we lose our unique.
In addition I think that we should keep our culture and do not mix them the others. When we celebrate the other countries holidays I afraid that in the future people do not remember anymore their own country holidays because we will focus to celebrate the others countries holidays and forget our traditions.
Regards,
Reelika
Dear bloggers,
ReplyDeleteEach country should celebrate their own holidays.I agree because this is what makes every country special. This is what makes them different form others country.
Many people travel somewhere else to see something unique, something that they haven't seen before. But if everyone celebrates the same holiday everywhere then it takes the excitement away.

Annika

ReplyDeleteDear Ülle and co-bloggers,
ReplyDeleteNowadays months and even years are passing so away quickly that sometimes it is good to take some time off and just relax. That`s why I believe that holidays are the perfect excuse to spend some quality time with your beloved ones. There are many holidays which are celebrated in almost all the countries in the world, like Christmas , New Years Eve or Easter, but there are also many which are unique to a certain country. In my opinion it is absolutely amazing that countries take different holidays from each other and celebrate them. It brings us closer as different cultures and also riches our personal views. On the other hand I think that this kind of globalization loses uniqueness, which is crucial in our culture`s future. I believe some holidays like kardri-and mardipäev should stay as our own, because they tell an important strory related to Estonian history.
All the best,
Jane Soesoo
Dear Ülle
ReplyDeleteI agree that each country should celebrate their own holidays, while every country has its own traditions and religion.
Furthermore celebrating holidays from different nationalities would show respect to each other. AS meeting new friends with new traditions and stuff, what is related to holidays.
Wish u good!
